Samsung is a South Korean multinational company who have their headquarters in Samsung Town, Seoul. Yes, they have their own town! Samsung started trading in 1938. They started selling electronics in the late 1960’s. They sell a quite a lot of electronics equipment, most notably smartphones, TVs, computers, kitchen and home appliances, digital cameras and finally, video baby monitors. If you haven’t heard of Samsung, you must live in a cave! The Samsung SEW-3037W baby monitor has a nice large 3.5-inch (9cm) screen. It has the rather handy voice activated mode, remote control camera action and has an impressive range of up to 900 feet. It has a range of options that should suit most parents. Samsung SEW-3037W Review
The Samsung SEW-3037w has a nice sized 3.5-inch (9cm) LCD screen. This makes it easy to navigate the menus and controls, including remotely controlling the camera unit.
It has the handy voice activated (VOX) mode. Switching VOX mode on reduces ambient noise that the monitor picks up. This helps you hear your baby better if they wake up or need your attention.
The baby monitor has built-in LED lights, which light up when it detects sound. The louder the sound, the more lights will be lit up. Useful if you have a noisy room or have to mute the parent unit for a short while.
There is a two-way talk back facility. This lets you talk or sing to your baby if they only need to hear your voice. This saves you going into their room and avoiding a ‘pick them up, put them back down three hours later scenario’.
Pan, tilt, and zoom function
From the parent unit you can remotely control the camera unit to pan, tilt or zoom. This helps you see what is happening in your baby’s room, and possibly save yourself from going into their room, and disturbing them. The ability to move the camera, to get the best picture possible, is extremely handy if you have a baby who moves around a lot.
The Samsung SEW-3037W baby monitor has night vision of up to 15 feet using infrared LED lights (that do not light up in the dark). Ideal for keeping an eye on your little one at night. The camera unit will adjust the nigh time picture as it monitors the light levels in the room. You can also remotely switch on a night-light if your baby needs a soothing light in their room.
Digital Signal Up to 900 feet (274 metres)
The Samsung SEW-3037w uses 2.4 GHz frequency to send a secure and interference-free video signal. According to Samsung, the ‘Pure Digital Signal’ does not receive interference from other electronic devices such as microwaves or cordless phones. Although feedback suggest that, it does in some instances. See below in the ‘cons’ section for more details.
The monitor has a range of up to 900 feet, which is quite a long way! Although as most baby monitor manufacturers forget to tell you, this is dependent on what house you live in, and how many floors and walls you have as well. The unit has an out of range alert. So if you go past 900 feet or there is no signal received by the parent unit, you will know about it.
Expandable to four cameras
The Samsung baby monitor camera unit runs off mains power and the parent unit works from the mains or re-chargeable battery. Through normal use, you should expect to get around five hours of use. This is pretty good. Some other baby monitors will only give you three hours before a re-charge is needed.
You can save battery power on the parent unit by using the sleep button to switch off the screen. The unit will still monitor for sound. To turn the screen back on, press any button.
The unit can be expanded to take an additional three cameras. You can view any of the additional cameras in scan mode. The parent unit will alternate between the cameras at a set interval. You can manually switch between the cameras as well.
So far so good, any issues with it?
There are a few things you need to know about the Samsung SEW-3037W baby monitor before you consider buying it. The first issue, while I think its minor, can be somewhat annoying. Every time you switch the unit on, it will play a two second electronic start up tune. Fun at first, but after the 100th time, not so much fun. It can’t be switched off either.
Some have fed back that the unit does lose its signal now and again, while others say it works fine. It seems sometimes signal does receive interference from other electronic devices that use the 2.4GHZ frequency. To avoid this happening it’s advisable to keep the monitor away at least three to four feet from other electronic devices such as wireless routers. You will be alerted if the monitor loses its signal.
The quality of the colour picture (daytime use) is OK. You can see the picture fine, but it’s a bit fuzzy. Also, the zoom facility does seem to produce a pixelated picture. The black and white picture (night-time mode) is a little better quality wise.

Pros
The Samsung SEW-3037W is fairly decent video baby monitor. The things that it has going for it include remote control facility to tilt, pan and zoom the camera unit, and the VOX mode to reduce background noise. It is also expandable up to four cameras, it’s easy to use and set up and the signal range is pretty impressive.
Cons
There are a few things to be aware of, namely the picture quality can be a bit fuzzy and the signal can drop now and again. This has been noticed when it’s next to other electronic devices that use the 2.4GHZ frequency. It also doesn’t have a temperature monitoring facility, which most other video baby monitors, come with.
Summary
The Samsung SEW-3037W is a pretty good baby monitor. The range of features it comes with is generally, what you would expect for a baby monitor for this price. The ability to remotely control, from the parent unit, to pan, tilt and zoom the camera is impressive. So is the expandability up to four cameras and the VOX mode.
However, it is missing some little features that other baby monitors of the same, or lesser price, come with, such as temperature monitoring. Also added to the feedback of the picture quality being a bit fuzzy, and it can be prone to interference from other electronic devices sometimes, means this baby monitor is worth considering, but I’d suggest you look at a few others first.
