Best Reusable Nappies UK Reviews of 2019

Reusable nappies in different colours

If you’ve got a baby, you may be looking for the best reusable nappies for them. Reusable nappies can save quite a bit of money during your child’s infancy, as compared to disposable diapers. One website estimates the lifetime cost of disposable diapers for a single child at close to £1355, while the investment of reusable cloth diapers is closer to £239. This could equate to some serious savings for you – it’s just a trade-off between your money and your time (washing and cleaning the diapers).

We’ve put together a short buying guide for you, to take a look at some of the best options available today.

Reviews of the Best Reusable Nappies in the UK for 2019

1. LilBit

First on our list of best reusable nappies are the Lilbit reusable diapers. The Lilbit nappies are pocket style, with an outer waterproof, breathable shell and are not made from organic cloth, but rather from waterproof TPU synthetics. The insides have soft microfiber terry cloth, making them soft and comfortable on the baby.  These diapers sell as a pack of six, and include six charcoal inserts. The inserts are made of three layers of absorbent microfiber cloth, and two outer layers of bamboo charcoal. They are hypoallergenic, absorbent, and much easier to wash and dry than regular cloth inserts. They are adjustable, and can fit children anywhere from 8lbs to 35lbs. They also include leg gussets, to protect against leaks.

After reading the reviews on Amazon from other mums and dads, Lilbit Nappies are excellent choices for reusable diapers. At this price point for a pack of six, they are also quite affordable. Parents are quite happy with them.

Next is the Littles & Bloomz Reusable Pocket Cloth nappy, which was previously called Little Bloom nappies. Made with soft, breathable PUL fiber on the outside, the inside is made of a soft fleece and suede layer made of bamboo fleece. It is a pocket style nappy, with a bamboo charcoal insert to absorb messes and keep the baby comfortable and free from any unnatural synthetics or materials. Little Bloom says that they can hold up to 8 times their weight. They are adjustable, and can be set at 3 different sizes to accommodate babies of all ages. They are also available in a wide range of colours and patterns, and sell for £ for a set of both nappy and insert.

The Littles & Bloomz nappy and insert are easy to wash and quick to dry, and can be stuck in just about any machine washer. Be sure to use a non-bio detergent, and do not use any bleach or fabric conditioner. They should also be hang-dried, and never tumble dried.

The Littles & Bloomz Pocket nappies are pretty cheap for a set nappy and insert set, and are widely liked and well-reviewed by parents from the reviews we’ve read online.

3. Bambino Mio Miosolo

The Bambino Miosolo is an all-in-one, reusable nappy that fits babies of all ages, from newborns up until potty training. The size of the nappy can be adjusted by using the adjustable poppers and Velcro fastenings. The outer layer is made of 100% polyester, laminated to polyurethane, which keeps it stretchy while also water resistant, designed for active babies to like to play and get messy. The inner is made of 100% polyester into soft, comfortable material that keeps the baby feeling dry and comfortable at all the times. The inner, absorbent core of the nappy is made from 85% polyester and 15% nylon, and will absorb just about any moisture or mess.

The core can be easily removed using the unique, tab pull-out system, which makes it easy to wash and dry. The soft, polyester fleece microfiber makes washing the rest of the diaper extremely simple and easy, while the water resistant polyurethane outer comes clean very easily. Bambino Mio recommends using a scoop of Miofresh diaper cleanser when washing, and to hang dry it away from direct heat – do not throw it in a machine dryer. Tumble drying can lead to quick deterioration of the material. Bambino Mio also recommends pre-washing it several times.

The Bambino Miosolo comes in on the expensive side, and is considerably more than other options like the Little Bloom or the LilBit. However, the Miosolo is one of the most popular and widely purchased reusable baby nappies in the UK. It is well-liked and reviewed by many parents online and from what we can see with customers saying that it is one of the best-designed reusable nappies they’ve ever bought. It also comes in a variety of colours and prints, from Pandamonium to Zebra.

Other Considerations Before Buying

Reusable diapers are also much better for the environment – instead of throwing away hundreds if not thousands of dirty paper diapers, you just clean the cloth ones out and reuse them.

They are also much softer and more comfortable, made of natural materials or soft synthetic fleeces, instead of disposable paper and chemicals – which is another reason they are popular. Reusable cloth diapers are great not only for their affordability and eco-friendliness, but also for their hypo-allergenic properties.

Some babies may have allergies or skin sensitive to certain plastic materials or chemicals used in disposable diapers, and could develop rashes from them.

Cloth diapers help remove that risk. Many parents report that switching to cloth diapers results in much less diaper rash, as well.

There are also hybrid diapers, which have a cloth outer shell but contain inner disposable liners, to make managing mess and clean up much easier. You can also purchase flushable liners that fit inside the nappy and can be easily flushed or thrown away, eliminating much of the work of cleaning them. This will add a little bit more to the cost, but the added convenience and speed may be worth it.

While traditional cloth diapers are not very common today, there has been a resurgence in modern reusable diapers that use soft, synthetic microfibers and fleeces instead of traditional fabric or modern chemicals. There are three main kinds of reusable cloth diapers that you will find – all-in-one, all-in-two, and pocket.

All-in-one diapers all called such because their outer layer and inner core are sewn together, and thus one-piece. All-in-one diapers are little more convenient than pocket diapers, as there are no separate pieces that must be taken apart and cleaned separately. The resulting downside is that they are harder and take longer to clean, and you must have a large collection of clean ones available.

Pocket diapers, on the other hand, use a system in which the waterproof, breathable exterior has a soft inner layer of microfiber, and a pocket opening sewn into it, in which an absorptive insert is stuffed. These absorbent liners are usually made from organic materials such as bamboo charcoal, hemp or cotton that can soak up a large amount of moisture, but some may be made from synthetic materials. Many people prefer pocket diapers because of their ability to keep the insert in one place, and you can stuff an extra insert or two in for longer periods (such as overnight). This of course leads to more laundry, as you will have to wash more than one piece every time. However, many people recommend pocket systems over all-in-ones because of the ability to add and remove inserts.

There are also All-in-Two systems, which use an absorbent insert and outer shell, like the other systems. The insert, however, is merely placed on top of the inside of the diaper – not stuffed into a separate pocket. This makes it possible to reuse the outer shell if it is not soiled, while just the inner layer gets washed. While All-in-Two systems have their pros, they are not as common as All-in-One or Pocket Style designs, and we will not be covering any in this review.

You will want to look for the most absorbent nappy you can find, as absorbency is the key to reducing diaper rash and messes – moisture up against the baby’s skin is the perfect recipe for creating diaper rash. You will also want to look for the most comfortable diapers for the child; usually, the more trim and less bulky the diaper, the more comfortable it will be for your baby.

In the end, any of these from our best reusable nappies UK list will work well for your needs, and all are available for a good price.

You will have to decide which one works best for you – mostly, whether you want to deal with the added work of a pocket design and insert, or just go with a simple, all-in-one design that requires less work and less laundry.  Keep in mind how absorbent the diaper you are looking at is, to prevent diaper rash, as well.

You will want to remember to purchase enough diapers to keep a fresh, steady supply without having to do laundry too frequently. Around 30-36 is an often recommended number online, but it will of course depend on how much you are willing to spend and how often you care to do laundry. We hope our best reusable nappies reviews have offered you some guidance on your purchase!
